Sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy

This disease stands out in the pantheon of weirdness: monocytes and macrophages attacking one's own lymph nodes, but not quite able to finish the job. The node remains in a stalemate.


Lymphocytes engulfed by macrophages ... 

... but not quite digested

... because they are 'self', after all

a phenomenon called 'emperipolesis'





Lymph node mostly replaced by pink macrophages

with reisdual blue lymphoid follicles
