Cartilage and bone

To begin with, here is fetal cartilage made up of stellate mesenchymal cells
The initial chondroid matrix is pink, but becomes blue due to deposition of hyaluronate

This is mature, hyaline cartilage, the cells still remain stellate

And enchondral ossification (note the transition from blue to pink)
A periosteal osteosarcoma; predominantly cartilage, with a few mesenchymal cells making bone

Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma
